Overview

Split a PDF into separate files in your browser

Split a PDF into separate files, entirely in your browser. Save every page on its own, or extract custom page ranges in one click.

Step by step

How to split a PDF

  1. 1
    Add your PDF

Drag a PDF onto the upload area, or select Browse files to choose one from your device. The file stays in your browser.

  2. 2
    Choose how to split

Pick Every page to save each page on its own, or Page ranges to type ranges like 1-3, 5, 8-10 — each range becomes a separate PDF.

  3. 3
    Split and download

Select Split PDF. The result PDFs are built locally — download them individually or grab everything as a single ZIP.

Tips for splitting PDFs

  • Use ranges for chapters

Page ranges mode is ideal for pulling out a chapter or section. Type the first and last page of each part you need, separated by commas.

  • Open-ended ranges

End a range with a dash — like 7- — to mean "page 7 through the last page". Handy when you do not know the final page number.

  • Quality is preserved

Pages are copied as-is — text, images, and fonts are not re-rendered or re-compressed, so each result PDF matches the original.

  • Unlock protected files first

Password-protected PDFs cannot be split directly. Remove the password in your PDF viewer, then upload the file again.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a PDF into separate files?
Add your PDF, choose Every page to save each page on its own or Page ranges to extract specific sections, then select Split PDF. The result files download individually or as a single ZIP.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and split entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. You can confirm there are no outbound requests in your browser's Network tab.
How do I extract specific pages?
Switch to Page ranges and type ranges like 1-3, 5, 8-10. Each range becomes its own PDF. Separate ranges with commas or spaces.
Does splitting reduce PDF quality?
No. Pages are copied losslessly with pdf-lib — text, images, and fonts are not re-rendered or re-compressed, so each result PDF matches the source file.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Encrypted PDFs cannot be split directly — the tool will tell you the file is protected. Remove the password in your PDF viewer first, then upload the file again.
How do I download all the split files at once?
When the split produces more than one PDF, select Download all as ZIP. Each file is also available to download individually.
Can I split a PDF on my phone?
Yes. The layout works on phones with large touch targets, and the split runs in any modern mobile browser.
